Effect of Aggregation of EuS Nanoparticles of Various Sizes on their Spectral Characteristics

It was shown by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and electronic spectroscopy that the parameters of the electronic spectra of EuS nanoparticles for the 4f→5d transition of Eu 2+ ions are determined not by the sizes of the individual nanoparticles (d = 9.5-78 nm) but by their differing degrees of aggregation. It was found that the luminescence of the investigated samples of EuS in the shortwave part of the visible spectrum arises from the emission of light by the organic stabilizer molecules.
