Studying the effects of elongational properties on atomization of weakly viscoelastic solutions using Rayleigh Ohnesorge Jetting Extensional Rheometry (ROJER)

•Extensional relaxation timescales down to 60μs are measured.•Measurements are performed by studying the capillary thinning during jet breakup.•Droplet average size in atomization increases with viscoelasticity.•A toy model is proposed to analyze the effects of viscoelasticity on atomization.•Predictions from the model agree with the measurements from spray tests.
