More accurate measurement of vancomycin minimum inhibitory concentration indicates poor outcomes in meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia

•We evaluated the effect of vancomycin (VAN) on MRSA bacteraemia prognosis.•A VAN MIC ≥1.5μg/mL and Charlson co-morbidity index was related to mortality.•VAN therapy did not affect the clinical prognosis.•Strains with high a VAN MIC also had high teicoplanin (TEC) and daptomycin (DAP) MICs.•TEC and DAP may not be used in patients with a high VAN MIC owing to cross-resistance.
