This article describes a compact dual-band chip antenna using folded-loop metal pattern structure for WLAN/UWB applications. The folded-loop metal pattern is embedded on the Taconic CER10 substrate to achieve a compact structure and two operating bands of WLAN and UWB. The proposed dual-band chip antenna occupies a compact area of 6 x 6 mm and shows a low profile of 1 mm when mounted on the system circuit board of the mobile phone, making it suitable for thin mobile phone applications. Details of the proposed design are described and experimental results of the constructed prototype are presented. (c) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
