Epidemic mortality in greenfinches at feeder stations caused by Trichomonas gallinae - a recent problem in Northern Germany Ten greenfinches (Carduelis chloris) and a hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) which had died near feeder stations in three administrative districts of North Rhine Westphalia revealed a necrotizing esophagitis and ingluvitis. Lesions were caused by infection with Trichomonas gallinae. Trichomoniasis may be the cause of a recent epidemic finch mortality in Northern Germany.
