Synthesis, Microstructure and Dielectric Properties of Tin Doped Barium Titanate

Lead-free ferroelectric ceramics are actively researched to substitute toxic Lead-containing ferroelectrics. In this work synthesis and characterization of BaTi1-xSnxO3(BTS), ceramics is reported. The BTS ceramics were prepared by conventional solid state reaction route. Optimum calcination was observed to be at 1200 degrees C for 4 hours and yielded predominantly single phase ceramics. The effect of sintering conditions on the microstructure details (grain size, secondary phases, and grain boundary segregation) and dielectric constant was studied.
