Dimensions of Participation and Leadership: Implications for Community-Based Health Promotion for Youth

Several factors influence a community's ability to build an effective community-based health promotion program. Three dimensions related to leadership and participation are explored in three different community health initiatives: 1) clarification of scope of activities, 2) identifying skilled indigenous leadership, and 3) formality of relationships. These dimensions are important elements in establishing coalitions around youth health issues. Findings are illustrated in case study format and implications for promoting health in youth are delineated.
