Study on Inconel 625 Hollow Structure Manufactured by Explosive Welding

In this study, a large Inconel 625 (UNS6625) hollow structure composed of internal and external slabs and multiple rib pieces was manufactured by an adjusted explosive welding method. The optimal parameters including standoff distance (s) and explosive loading (R) for the experiments were selected by an orthogonal experiment method. The results of shear testing showed that the bonding strengths of the optimal parameters exceeded those of the parent metal. The results of the optical and scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that the bond had a straight interface. The microhardness values of grains near the interface were higher than those of other parts. Lastly, the results of the leak and pressure tests revealed that the pathways had achieved acceptable sealing properties.
