Host-targeting agents for treatment of hepatitis B virus infection

•Chronic HBV infection is a major cause of liver disease.•HBV infection can be prevented by vaccination.•Antivirals control chronic infection but viral cure remains an unmet medical need.•Host factors are promising candidates for antiviral therapy.•Here we review host targeting agents as novel antivirals against HBV infection.
