摘要
Cognitive interference, which can adapt its strategy to the states of the environment and legitimate system, is a serious threat to wireless communication systems or even more general systems such as smart grids. The interferer can mimic the randomness in the environment. This would make it for the legitimate system difficult to detect the presence of the interferer. In this paper, an approach is proposed to detect the presence or absence of a cognitive interferer. The mutual information between the legitimate system and the environment is used as a metric to measure the level of intelligence. Two approaches are proposed to compute the metric in an online manner, namely the k-nearest neighbor algorithm and Gaussian approximation. Numerical simulations resulted presented to detect cognitive interference in a cognitive radio network. The results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism can effectively detect the presence of cognitive interference.
