Land Use Change And Urban Expansion Of Longkou City Based On Rs And Gis

City has expanded obviously and many kinds of resources have been consumed sharply with the development of the city. As one of the essential nature resources, land has been directly infected. In order to discuss the land change process, the urban expansion's spatial distribution and its driving forces, this paper takes Longkou city as an example and selects aerial photographs in April 2004, April 2009, social and economic data as major data. Then using the aerial photographs, we did visual interpretation to get the land cover maps, did raster calculate to get the land cover conversion maps, and did statistic analysis and transfer matrix analysis to get the quantity of changes. Finally we analyzed the statistical data in SPSS to find its driving forces. Results showed that: During the last five years, the area of grassland, transport land and water were enlarged, especially the grassland, transport land, they had increased by 75.48%, 73.00% respectively, Whereas the area of arable land, orchard land, forest land, urban land and others were reduced, especially the arable land, others and orchard land, they had decreased by 5.39%, 3.91 %, 3.44% respectively. The increased grassland and transport land mainly came from urban land. The decreased orchard land mainly transferred into urban land, secondly transferred into water land, transport land and grassland. We also concluded that among the driving forces, socioeconomic factors and government policies such as afforestation had played an important role in the LUCC.
