AgxVyOzPO4: Silver Vanadium Phosphorous Oxides as Cathode Materials in Lithium Batteries

Silver vanadium oxide (Ag2V4O11) has been a highly successful cathode material in batteries used for implantable cardiac defibrillators (ICDs). ICDs require years of microampere current delivery along with intermittent high current pulses in the ampere range. Our goal was to rationally develop a new family of materials which incorporate the best properties of two different successful battery materials, LiFePO4 and Ag2V4O11.
