Benchmarking Evaluation Study of Personal Navigation Devices in TeleFOT

This paper presents the results of a benchmarking evaluation study of three different personal navigation devices, a study performed within the auspices of the European Large Scale Collaborative Project TeleFOT. The purpose of the study was to evaluate devices and gather such evaluation data that the single numeric grades for each device’s usability and user experience could be expressed. The benchmarking evaluations were conducted in June-October 2009. The study focused on three different types of navigation devices: TomTom 630 Go Traffic, Nokia 6210 Navigator smart phone, and NDrive G800R that includes real photos in perspective. The results show that there are some differences between the devices both in usability and how users experience using these devices. Also there were differences in how users experienced the device after short term evaluation and after they have used the device for a while.
