Dynamic Scenes Management for Animation with Ray-Tracing Rendering

In this paper, we present an animation method based on a dynamic management of the scene. These works have been developed within the framework of the VOXAR (VOXel ARchitecture) project which initial purpose was to build a real time parallel machine to compute image synthesis by the ray-tracing method. We describe the space repartition on the hardware topology by rolling up the space around the processor network. We explain the data connexity needed for ray tracing. Then, we present the capabilities of handling object using the same partition of space. This approach allows us to compute animation of complex scene without prohibitive time in front of rendering time. We show the animation kernel and the automatic mechanism used to control motions and variations of the components (objects, lights, camera) in a 3D scene.
