Determination of Fenbutatin Oxide and Cyhexatin by GC

A method of analysis of fenbutatin oxide and cyhexatin by GC was developed. The compounds were extracted from foods with acetic acid-ethyl ether (1:99) mixture, then ethylated with Grignard reagent (EtMgBr), and the ethyl derivatives were extracted with hexane. The hexane layer was concentrated and purified on a Sep-pak Florisil cartridge. Each ethyl derivative was determined by FPD-GC (Sn) using a DB-1 capillary column. The detection limit of fenbutatin oxide was 0.05 ppm and that of cyhexatin was 0.02 ppm. The recoveries from 10 kinds of samples (at the level of 1 ppm) were 80 similar to 105%.
