A STEP-based semantical view mapping Knowledge sharing between a CAD system and an acoustics KBS in Building Design

A previous research work had resulted in a knowledge-based system for the assessment of acoustics quality in building design. But it could neither communicate with other tools such as CAD systems nor import / export building project repository with a specific format. In order to tackle this shortcoming, we looked for a method which might provide such communication facilities without questioning the previous effort in modelling and software d evelopment. We c hoose a STEP-based approach relating to the Esprit project ATLAS methodology. It has ensued a core model in acoustics on which are based s everal semantical view mappers as well as some domain-dependant tools such as knowledge-based system or case-based reasoning approaches. The knowledge sharing could then be achi eved.
