Determination of Methabenzthiazuron in Agricultural Products by HPLC

A simplified determination of methabenzthiazuron in agricultural products by HPLC with a UV detector was investigated. Each agricultural product sample was homogenized and extracted with acetone. The crude extract was purified on a Bond Elut(R) Extraction Cartridge PSA using a mixture of acetone and n-hexane. Methabenzthiazuron was analyzed by HPLC and UV detection (275 nm). The HPLC separation was performed on the ODS column with acetonitrile-water (1:1) as the mobile phase. Recoveries of methabenzthiazuron from several agricultural products fortified at the level of 0.1 ppm were in the rang of 93 similar to 104%. The limit of detection was 0.005 ppm in samples.
