摘要
Sepsis is a major cause of multiple organ failure (MOF) and death in the intensive care unit (ICU). Attempts to improve survival by interfering with the immune system have failed for various reasons including that we do not know when to intervene or in which part of the system, and that we lack sophisticated tools [1]. We need to develop more insight into the disease process for a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved before we can think of novel therapeutic approaches.
