Enhanced antioxidant and antitumor activities of Antrodia cinnamomea cultured with cereal substrates in solid state fermentation

•Various cereals were used as substrates to enhance functional compound production.•These substrates enhanced the production of polyphenols and triterpenoids.•Cereals based substrates promoted the antitumor and antioxidant activities.•Oat-cultured mycelial extract showed stronger overall antioxidant properties.•The extract greatly reduced the viability of MCF-7 cancer cells and HepG2 cells.
