Effect of the surface modification of zinc powders with organosilanes on the corrosion resistance of a zinc pigmented organic coating

•The zinc particles were passivated by surface modification using organosilane solution.•Electrochemical activity of zinc particles was reduced by organosilane passivation.•Growth behavior of organosilane varies with types of functional group.•We report role of organosilane as passivating material and coupling with binder matrix.
