Water availability, use and governance in the wine producing region of Mendoza, Argentina

•Wine growers in Mendoza do not seem to be concerned by water scarcity currently.•Water policies are not properly regulated making it difficult to allocate water.•Water resources will diminish in the future due to declining Andean glacier mass.•Serious overhauls to current water policies will be required to address these issues.
