Gamma-hydroxybutyrate enhances mood and prosocial behavior without affecting plasma oxytocin and testosterone

•We investigated putative prosocial, mood altering and neuroendocrine effects of GHB in healthy males.•We found prosocial effects of GHB.•We found mood enhancing effects of GHB.•We found increased progesterone plasma levels after GHB intake.•Oxytocin and testosterone plasma levels, as well as HPA axis activity remained unaffected after GHB intake.
