A new organically templated open-framework uranyl ethylenediphosphonate

A new organically templated uranyl ethylenediphosphonate, (UO2)5(L)2(HL)2(H2DABCO)2·2H2O (1) (H4L=ethylenediphosphonic acid, DABCO=1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane), has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction studies. The structure of compound 1 has been determined to be three-dimensional, which is constructed solely by UO6 square plane bipyramids and ethylenediphosphonate ligands. This open framework contains channels templated by protonated DABCO cations, which serve both as space fillings and charge compensators.
