Perceptive curve detection by global edge tracing

Human beings have an ability to perceive continuous curves from a binary image that includes discontinuous curves and noise. To achieve this capability, global detection is required. In the past, we have proposed a perceptive curve detection method with accumulation of the evaluation value of a partial curve. In addition, this paper proposes a method that is highly accurate based on global edge tracing. Experimental results show that the curves detected by the proposed method include no interruptions or branching. The subjective assessment of the method was greater than that of all other methods tested. (c) 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
