The purpose of this quality improvement project is to assess and improve the effectiveness of patient education materials and informed consent processes. Step 1: An environment survey was administered to 70 patients in an interview format by a registered nurse in the cardiac investigationunit (CIU).The survey included patients’ demographic information and 14 multiple choice questions. Step 2: Current educationmaterials will be revised and updated based on survey results and patients expressed needs. An education-based video will be created to supplement written education materials. Step 3: Patients will be resurveyed. Results for this project are unknown as the research is in progress. This project will provide nurses in the CIU with appropriate and effective tools to teach patients. It will improve the overall safety and quality of care to patients undergoing sameday discharge cardiac catheterization intervention procedures.
