Vertical structure and optical properties of Titan’s aerosols from radiance measurements made inside and outside the atmosphere

•Three thin and one thicker layer of atmospheric aerosols are found in the DISR data.•Our previous aerosol model does not fit the geometric albedo or size of Titan’s disk.•Our new aerosol model fits DISR observations made inside and outside the atmosphere.•A nearly constant aerosol volume extinction coefficient below about 55km altitude fit the DISR data.•The aerosols darken substantially from 200km down to about 80km altitude.
