Fluid flow dynamics in MAS systems

•A comprehensive examination of MAS turbine and bearing fluid flow system is given.•Computational fluid dynamics simulations (CFD) of the MAS turbine are given.•Simulation results are compared with experiments and theoretical flow models.•Turbine efficiency is about 25%, thus lower than typical turbomachinery systems.•CFD of the radial bearing system show significant heating due to friction losses.
