Estrogenic activity of isoflavonoids from the stem bark of the tropical tree Amphimas pterocarpoides, a source of traditional medicines.

•We studied an enriched in phenolics methanol extract of A. pterocarpoides stem bark.•The extract was more estrogenic in the vagina than the uterus of ovariectomized rat.•The main isoflavonoids were assayed for ER transactivation and estrogenic activity.•Estrogenic activity was due more to daidzein and dihydroglycitein, less to glycitein.•Dihydroglycitein was a partial agonist of ERβ and more estrogenic than glycitein.
