Comparison of inducible versus constitutive expression of plectasin on yields and antimicrobial activities in Pichia pastoris.

•Differences were found in antibacterial activities and yields between inducible and constitutive expression of plectasin in Pichia pastoris.•The constitutive plectasin probably exhibits higher antibacterial activity.•The secretion process of constitutive plectasin is steadier and more controllable.•These findings may offer guidance for mass production and users of plectasin.
