摘要

•A real-time qPCR assay was designed to detect M. mackini in host (oyster) tissues.•Detection was sensitive, specific and suitable for high-throughput processing.•Host mid-body sections provided the highest likelihood for detecting parasite DNA.•This assay proved superior to existing non-reference tests in M. mackini detection.•Relative host tissue distribution of M. mackini DNA was mapped during infection.
