Matrix Vesicle-Bound Bone Alkaline Phosphatase for the Assessment of Peripheral Blood Admixture of Human Bone Marrow Aspirates

•A method for purity assessment of human bone marrow aspirates is proposed.•The method is based on bone matrix vesicle-bound ALP activity in human bone marrow.•Bone matrix vesicles in human bone marrow are visualized by electron microscopy.•Purity of human bone marrow declines with larger aspirated bone marrow volumes.•A minimal human bone marrow quality cut-off of 15% is suggested.
