Treatment Of Post-Infarction Left Ventricular Dysfunction With Percutaneous Implantation Of Parachute Device (Tm)

Congestive heart failure secondary to myocardial infarction is associated with significant morbidity and mortality despite currently available therapies. A novel catheter-based left ventricular partitioning device (Parachute (TM), CardioKinetix, Inc., Menlo Park, CA) is currently available for the treatment of patients with severe systolic dysfunction after antero-apical myocardial infarction with regional wall motion abnormalities. Preliminary clinical data showed that the Parachute (TM) implantation could be associated with favorable clinical and left ventricular hemodynamic improvements post-implantation.Here, we present the case of a patient with symptomatic congestive heart failure after myocardial infarction implanted with the Parachute (TM) device and we briefly review the current literature on this left ventricular partitioning system.
