Tabletop magnetic resonance elastography for the measurement of viscoelastic parameters of small tissue samples.

•MR-elastography of small tissue samples is feasible with a 0.5T tabletop scanner.•Good agreement between tabletop- and high field MR-elastography.•Viscoelastic parameters of tissue samples agree with published data.•The shear wave amplitude to noise ratio is about fourfold lower to comparable 7T data.
