Relationships between stressful life events and impaired fasting glucose among left-behind farmers in rural China.

•Contemporary research findings on life events and glucose were inconclusive.•This study provides additional evidence on the issue for a special population.•Stressful life events were positively associated with impaired fasting glucose.•The relationship showed a dose-effectiveness tendency.•The high prevalence of impaired glucose of the population merits ample attention.
