摘要
•The epidemic of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in West Africa has killed more than 1500 people, including many health care workers.•The dead include Dr. Sheikh Humarr Khan, chief physician of the Lassa fever ward at Kenema Hospital in Sierra Leone.•This article is written by Khan’s friends and colleague, to highlight key aspects of his professional and personal life.•We also pay tribute to Mbalu Fonnie, chief nurse of the Lassa fever ward, and the many others who have died fighting EVD.•We discuss what we believe would be Dr. Khan’s and Nurse Fonnie’s, as well as our own hopes for vanquishing this and other diseases in Africa.
