Substance use disorders and psychotic disorders in epilepsy: a population-based registry study.

•We compared people with epilepsy (PWE) to people without epilepsy.•Substance use disorders and psychotic disorders were more often seen in PWE.•The relative risk was 4.42 for alcohol use disorder and 3.86 for drug use disorder.•The relative risk was 2.94 for schizophrenia and 2.29 for bipolar disorder.•Psychiatric comorbidity requires attention in comprehensive epilepsy care.
