Road traffic noise and hypertension--accounting for the location of rooms.

•Road traffic noise increases the risk of high blood pressure (hypertension).•The association was only found if the subjects׳ living or bedroom was facing the street.•The exposure of the living room was more strongly associated with hypertension than the exposure of the bedroom.•No noise effects were seen for subjects that had the living room and the bedroom on the rear side of the house.
