Vasoconstriction and anti-inflammatory properties of the selective α-adrenergic receptor agonist brimonidine.

•Brimonidine is very highly selective toward the α2-adrenergic receptors.•Brimonidine is more potent than oxymetazoline on subcutaneous small vessels (<200μm).•Brimonidine has vasoconstrictive properties and reduces levels of skin edema.•Brimonidine could be beneficial in the treatment of facial erythema in rosacea.
