•Limited national data exists on acceptance of school-based influenza vaccination.•We surveyed parents on factors affecting consent to influenza vaccination at school.•Half of U.S. parents were estimated to be willing to consent to school vaccination.•Predictors of consent included child's prior receipt of influenza vaccine and parental education.•Concerns about vaccine safety and side effects were negatively correlated with giving consent.
