•ERCC1 is essential in cellular repair of oxaliplatin-induced DNA damage.•ERCC1 C118T does not affect survival after oxaliplatin therapy in patients with ACC.•ERCC1 C118T is not associated with cellular sensitivity to oxaliplatin in vitro.•Repair of platinum-induced DNA damage does not differ between ERCC1 118C and 118T.
