Characterisation of capillary ionic liquid columns for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of fatty acid methyl esters.

•The elution temperature of FAME on IL stationary phases was estimated.•Retention behaviour of FAMEs on various IL phases was studied.•FAME ECL and FCL indices on a series of IL phases were established.•A LSER model (Abraham descriptors) on IL phases using FAME ECL was developed.•Correlation of Abraham e (LUMO) and s (dipole) values were validated using GAUSSIAN.
