•We investigated the frequency of RAVs among patients failing to achieve SVR.•Baseline RAVs alone not predictive of virologic outcome.•Poor interferon responsiveness was highly predictive of non-SVR.•Post-baseline RAVs more frequently detected among non-SVR patients.•No association between baseline variants at resistance-associated loci and outcome.
