•Sonodegradation of acetaminophen and naproxen was performed.•Degradation was enhanced with the dispersion of SWNTs under US irradiation.•Synergistic effect on the degradation PhACs was observed in US/SWNT process.•Significant removal of dissolved organic carbon was achieved.
