摘要
Worldwide, the number of adults with diabetes is expected to rise to about 440 million by 2030, almost 80% of whom will be in low-income and middleincome countries. Management of diabetes is now perceived to represent a much more complex issue than glycaemic control alone, and there is a strong need for new treatment strategies. The Lancet has maintained a continuing interest in this topic, and a fourth theme issue is being planned for 2012 in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA). For the 2012 issue, The Lancet invites submissions of high-quality original research on any aspect of diabetes. Priority will be given to randomised trials that advance the evidence base relevant to treatment and prevention of disease, but any studies that have the potential to change clinical practice are welcome. Authors of accepted publications will be invited to present their research at the Lancet–ADA joint symposium during the association’s Annual Scientifi c Sessions, being held at the Pennsylvania Convention Centre, Philadelphia, USA, on June 8–12, 2012. Articles should be submitted via The Lancet’s online submission system, clearly stating in the cover letter that the submission is in response to this call. All articles for the issue must be received by Jan 20, 2012. If also submitting your research to the ADA as an abstract for the annual meeting, please inform the conference organisers of your simultaneous submission to The Lancet so that publication can be scheduled appropriately.
