Improving mobile device performance using cloudlets

Currently mobile devices have changed the way we access information making it ubiquitous. Mobile devices are usually limited by their processing capabilities and power consumption. The rate of newer generations of mobile devices replacing the previous is increasing in such way that are causing environmental problems due improper disposal of hazardous materials. We propose a mobile-cloud service that will improve the processing capabilities of single core mobile devices. This paper presents evidence that a mobile-cloud service is possible and we propose a simple protocol to request service. Performance tests were conducted using a simple concurrent application that communicates with a server. We gathered statistical data of execution time, floating point operations per second and process acceleration, compared the results between the local and the distributed application, also between different numbers of processing units.
