Superconducting magnet windings in which AC heating is insignificant can benefit from the elimination of transient heat-transfer limits on stability and also from the use of high-strength, moderate-conductivity copper and aluminum alloys for thermal protection. The way in which these benefits accrue from the use of internally cooled cabled superconductors (ICCS) for DC devices is described.
