摘要

•Value difference metric (VDM) is one of the widely used distance functions.•We propose local value difference metric (LVDM).•LVDM uses a modified decision tree algorithm to find the neighborhood of the test instance.•The experimental results on 36 UCI datasets validate its effectiveness.
