Lipid mediators of inflammation as novel plasma biomarkers to identify patients with bacteremia.

•We compared the metabolomic profile of patients with bacteremia and those without bacteremia.•Two glycerophosphocholines were downregulated in bacteremia.•A sphingosine, an acylcarnitine and an arachidonic acid were upregulated in bacteremia.•Trans-2,3,4-trimethoxycinnamate was lower in fatal than non-fatal bacteremia cases.
