Preparation and luminescent properties of red BaZn 2(PO 4) 2:Eu 3+ phosphor

A red-emitting phosphor BaZn 2(PO 4) 2: Eu 3+ was prepared by high temperature solid-state reaction. The excitation and emission spectra of BaZn 2(PO 4) 2:Eu 3+ phosphors were measured. The results show that the main excitation peaks are located at 360~400nm and the emission peaks are at 595nm. The effect of Eu 3+ concentration on the emission spectrum intensity of BaZn 2(PO 4) 2:Eu 3+ was investigated, and the results show that the emission spectrum intensity increases with Eu 3+ concentration increasing, and reaches the maximum value at 3% Eu 3+, then decreases. Under the condition of doping 3% Eu 3+, the effects of charge-compensating on the emission intensity were also investigated. Under the conditions of charge compensation Cl -, Li +, Na +, or K + incorporated in BaZn 2(PO 4) 2, the luminescence intensities of BaZn 2(PO 4) 2:Eu 3+ phosphor are enhanced and Cl - enhances the intensity of the emission most.
