Vibration-induced disturbance compensation in HDD By filtered-X RLS acceleration feedforward control

Besides its traditional use in PC and laptop, HDD is being more widely used in the mobile compact computers and portable consumer electronics equipments. The HDD in such environment has more exposure to the external vibrations coming from various sources. On the other hand, TPI increases sharply each year and narrower track pitch makes HDD more vulnerable to the operating vibration. This paper presents an adaptive filtering based algorithm to reject the vibration by acceleration feedforward compensation. The forward transfer function from the accelerometer output to PES is adaptively learnt through Filtered-X RLS method. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the scheme.
